Save the Tarkine has joined with members of the community to deliver a message to the “Tin Men” at Venture Minerals outside the Venture Minerals sponsored Tasmanian Minerals and Energy Conference.
“Like the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz, the tin men at Venture Minerals have shown themselves to have no heart. While Oz’s Tin Man sought a heart, the Venture Mineral’s tin men seek to tear the heart out of the Tarkine in the pursuit of short term profits and corporate greed,” said Save the Tarkine Campaign Coordinator, Scott Jordan.
“We are here today to tell the tin men, that in this real land of Oz, that Australians will not tolerate mining of the Tarkine wilderness.”
“Venture Minerals, Shree Minerals, and anyone else that seeks to destroy the verified World Heritage Values of the Tarkine will face growing public campaigns, including in the investment markets.”
“The time for the destroyers of wilderness is past. We have seen Venture Minerals share price fall 74% in the past three years, and Shree Minerals has dropped 24% since it opened it’s mine in November. Like Gunns Limited, these companies must now realise that there can never be a social licence for destruction of wilderness areas such as the Tarkine”.
“Investors are listening, and they are abandoning these toxic projects in increasing numbers.”
Minerals exploration licences over the Tarkine have fallen by one third in the past two years as 19 licences have been surrendered
