Our thoughts today are first and foremost with the workers at Sitel and their families.
This decision is deeply disappointing, particularly given this company received substantial public assistance under the previous state government to expand in Devonport.
The Government will work with Sitel and our federal counterparts to support those affected and assist them in finding alternative employment or opportunities for retraining.
While this comes as a setback for the North-West, the Liberal Government is getting on with the job of delivering our plan for the long-term future of Tasmania.
Clearly, there are no silver bullets, and we need to keep working hard to build on our competitive strengths, cut red and green tape and fix the budget mess.
Jeremy Rockliff, Deputy Premier
