RENOWNED Tasmanian peace activist, poet and protester Eve Masterman has died at the age of 106.
Ms Masterman, who was named a member of the Order of Australia in 1976 for her contribution to the public service, will be remembered for her tireless efforts to promote social justice, peace and the protection of Tasmania’s wilderness.
Her niece Ardyn Masterman said her aunt, who died yesterday (May 4), was known for her “outspoken attitudes and values, her conscientiousness and dedication to life”.
“Eve was known for her simplicity of lifestyle, her Quaker values, her outspoken commitment to wilderness, fitness and bushwalking,” Ardyn Masterman said.
“She will be remembered in the hearts and minds of all those whom she touched with her gracious hospitality.”
Ms Masterman was born on May 31, 1907, the youngest in a family of six children.
Her sister was the famous Tasmanian author Nan Chauncy.
