Community members are invited to dress in red and join a community walk for asylum seekers in Launceston on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th June 2014.

Organized by Launceston based group Safe Asylum, the walk will be attended by Senator Peter Whish-Wilson, Deputy Mayor Jeremy Ball, and Rosemary Armitage MLC.

“This fantastic free two day event will include roving entertainers, poets, music, story telling and school visits to raise awareness of asylum seeker policies and the United Nations Conventions”, says Ms Kym Blechynden from Safe Asylum.

“Community members are invited to dress in red and join us for all or part of the walk to help us continue the important discussion on asylum seeker policies in Australia”, says Ms Blechynden.

The walk will commence on Friday at 9am visiting students at Trevallyn Primary School before moving to Riverside Primary School and the West Tamar Council and Launceston City Council offices, which are both Refugee Welcome Councils.

On Saturday the walk will commence at 930am at Prince’s Square, visiting several locations in the city centre before finishing with entertainment at the Inveresk complex around midday.
