The decision to move Qantas call centre jobs to Hobart comes as a welcome relief for Tasmanians, but is obviously distressing for Victorians and Queenslanders.

Qantas’ decision is timely, on the day a new undersea cable has been announced, making Tasmania an internationally attractive destination for data storage and operations.

The Greens have long been saying Tasmania’s natural advantages, in terms of climate and environment, could be leveraged for job creation.

Our Island state truly is clean, green and clever, and I look forward to the continued growth of a sustainable data centre industry.”
