Senator Peter Whish-Wilson, Greens spokesperson for Small Business provides the following comments on the announcement of the Competition Review Panel.

“How many competition reviews do we need in Australia to tell us that our framework needs fixing?

“Family farms, small businesses and consumers need action now, not more talk fests.

“With another year before this panel reports, the government clearly will not act to support small businesses and producers in this term.

“There are plenty of actions they could take right away if they were serious about addressing the competition concerns of small business.

“The Greens have a comprehensive and costed plan for taking strong action to tackle the super market duopoly and market concentration concerns.

“Helping small business is not high on this government’s agenda. Bruce Bilson, the Small Business Minister, can’t even get an established small business or consumer affairs advocate on the panel.

“It is disappointing to only see the big end of the town gain representation through ex-ACCI and BCA employees. The usual suspects for this government.”
