… a snub to Tasmanian producers
Lyons State Liberal candidate Guy Barnet has expressed disbelief that the national carrier QANTAS is serving Danish butter on board its flights.
It was hard to comprehend when Tasmanian producers are of a top quality and competitive, Mr Barnett said.
“I was served Danish butter on a recent flight and raised my concerns directly with the QANTAS staff. I said I would follow up so I did. Last week I wrote to the QANTAS CEO seeking an explanation and recommending some fine Tasmanian options.
“It beggars belief when Tasmania produces some of the finest dairy products in the world.
“Why shouldn’t our own airline use them?”
“No doubt QANTAS will argue that cost is a key factor, but QANTAS use Australian made dairy products in its airport lounges.
“It just doesn’t make sense that it is cheaper for QANTAS to buy butter from Denmark to use on domestic Australian flights. They may have an argument for international flights but that seems far-fetched too.
“I have recommended to QANTAS that it should talk to companies like Meander Valley Dairy about showcasing local products on our flag carrier, Mr Barnett concluded.
