• Nick McKim: Creative industry opportunities for Tasmania
The Tasmanian Greens today announced their plan to invest $12 million into the Creative industry, setting a target to grow the creative sector to $1 billion in 5 years.
The policy initiative would invest in the creative industry council of Tasmania, provide incentives to advertising, film, television and ICT production developers to come and do business in Tasmania.
“We know from 2011 ABS stats that the Creative industry in Tasmania contributed $600 million to Tasmania’s economy,” Mr McKim said.
“But that was before MONA and Hobart made it into the lonely planet, we believe we can grow this sector’s contribution to $1 billion annually.”
“Hobart is the perfect place for a Guggenheim Museum, we know that other cities are leveraging the Guggenheim brand but they currently have no facilities in the southern hemisphere.”
“The Greens want to bring the creative sector leaders, state and federal government together along with philanthropists and say to Guggenheim, you need one in the southern hemisphere, let us present to you the city of Hobart and the location at Macquarie point.”
“This is an amazing opportunity for Hobart to become one of the must see cultural locations on the planet.”
“You have to think big and you have to put your idea out there and follow it through,” said Mr McKim.
