The Tasmanian Greens today released their public sector policy, committing to no reduction in the size of Tasmania’s public sector, a $6m spend on modernizing public sector workplaces, and a scholarship scheme for 5 public sector workers to travel each year for professional development.

Greens Leader Nick McKim said that the Greens will invest in more productive workplaces and more flexible working arrangements for public sector workers.

“Workers who are happier at work are more productive,” Mr McKim said.

“This is about investing into our public sector workforce to provide them with modern work places that are more flexible and better meet their needs.”

“Our infrastructure upgrades will not only make for healthier workplaces and therefore a more productive public sector, they will allow for the development of better end-of-trip facilities to encourage more use of active transport.”

“The Greens will also invest in a policy of creating more flexible workplaces with increased opportunities for secondment to the private sector, telecommuting and job sharing.”

“If we can give our public sector workers a better work-life balance we will ultimately see increased levels of service to the Tasmanian people,” Mr McKim said.
