Tasmanian Drag Queen cabaret star Miz Ima Starr and award winning filmmaker Heidi Lee Douglas have released a horror inspired music video for Starr’s catchy new original track “My Heart’s A Drummer”.

The music video release was timed with Women in Horror Month, which brings an international spotlight onto the growing number of female filmmakers working as writers, directors and producers in the horror film industry.

Starr’s music video was inspired by Douglas’ short horror film “Red Shoes”, a gothic fairytale set in modern day Sydney about a young woman arriving in the big city who follows the dangerous path of coveting.

“Red Shoes” was originally a no-budget short made by Douglas for the Stranger With My Face Horror Film Festival’s 48 Hour Tasploitation Challenge in 2013.

“The Stranger With My Face organizers contacted me to let me know one of the audience members loved the film and wanted to make it into a music video,” says Douglas, “so the film has taken on a life of it’s own, much like the Red Shoes in the story”.

Stranger With My Face Horror Film Festival, an annual event in Tasmania, was this year named one of the Top 5 Coolest Women’s Film Festivals worldwide by the readers of Moviemaker Magazine.

“Heidi is one of the filmmakers who’s been part of Stranger With My Face since the beginning,” says festival director Briony Kidd.

“She won our script competition in the first year with her retelling of the Bluebeard story set in colonial times, Little Lamb, and returned in 2013 with the fabulous Red Shoes. We can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.”

Kidd says one of the festival’s goals is to spotlight new voices in genre filmmaking.

“This music video is an example of an unexpected collaboration that’s emerged out of that. Women In Horror Month is all about celebrating diversity, as well. It’s exciting being part of that.”

Miz Ima Starr describes the video for “My Heart’s A Drummer” as “a horror-tastic poison-pen letter to the neon lights of Sydney, Australia!”

Miz Ima Starr’s new album “My Heart’s a Drummer” was simultaneously released on iTunes.
