‘Now’ it may be ‘the winter of our discontent’ according to Shakespeare, but it’s definitely not a winter of discontent for a son of Australian blues/rock, Hamish Anderson.
Hamish’s new song ‘Winter’ released on Dec 6 (Hamish has also released a self-titled EP) is a fine addition to Hamish’s growing profile. ‘Winter’, a haunting song of goodbye where he tells us he ‘was able to put into words all the thoughts he couldn’t articulate when he was saying goodbye to a relationship’.
While his planned visit to Tassie didn’t materialise last year he’s hoping to rectify that this year. With friends living in Tassie, and hearing great things about the state including MONA he is keen to visit..
How such a young man has the ability to represent in his work emotions considered beyond one so young he puts down to an interest in older music and the style of Bob Dylan’s storytelling.
Hamish is always one to experiment and he finds himself interested in teaming instruments like violins with country music and seeing how they can fit that genre.
He calls himself a rock artist with country, and blues highlights but sees rock as the umbrella for all of these genres.
Hamish is a little different in his approach to writing music. He finds composing on a typewriter a much more effective process than using a computer which can be distracting. Working on an old fashioned typewriter with the necessity to concentrate and that concentrated process is further emphasised in making corrections.
Hamish’s new single ‘Winter’ is out now. You can hear it here
