The article below entitled “Fishing Industry firms up against marine mining” in the Namib Times of 17 Dec. 2013 contains important points made by Mr. Matti Amukwa, Chairman of the Confederation of Namibian Fishing Associations (CNFA), when he addressed a consultative meeting in Swakopmund on 11 December 2013.

The introductory paragraph of the article quite rightly states that in “taking a strong stand against the potential negative effects of marine phosphate mining on the local fishing industry” Mr. Amukwa “made a powerful case … for acting with great caution when it comes to disrupting any part of the marine ecosystem”.
