A minor fire found this morning at the Southern Waste Solutions (SWS) Copping Waste Disposal
facility, located on the Arthur Highway at Copping has been brought under control and poses no
risk to the community or the environment.

On discovery, contracted site management organisation, Downer EDI Limited, reported the fire to
the Tasmanian Fire Service in line with the organisation’s fire action plan.

The fire, which is situated in recently placed refuse, has been contained and is expected to be
fully extinguished early this afternoon. The fire will be monitored closely over the coming days to
ensure it does not pose any ongoing risks.

Southern Waste Solutions has advised all appropriate authorities and will be asking the
Tasmanian Fire Service to investigate the cause of the fire.

As a precaution, the Copping Waste Disposal facility has been closed and it is anticipated the site
will re-open tomorrow (Thursday, 21 November).

Southern Waste Solutions will continue to update the community as information comes to hand.
