Tasmania the top destination for a short break

Tasmania is the most popular place Australians will visit for a short break, according to guest booking trends from Best Western’s Short Breaks promotion just ended.

Hobart and Launceston recorded the highest number of hotel bookings for the short breaks promotional period, with the BEST WESTERN Hobart and BEST WESTERN PLUS Launceston taking the most guest bookings for the six week promotion that ran from 1 October to 11 November.

Steve Richards, Best Western Australasia General Manager Sales and Marketing said, “Now is the best chance people get to go away for a long weekend to relax with family and friends before the busy Christmas season begins. Our short breaks promotion showed that Hobart and Launceston are the top places Australians are visiting, with our two new hotels in both those cities recording the most bookings for our short breaks promotional rate throughout Australia.”

Liz Gifford, Sales and Marketing Manager at BEST WESTERN Hobart said since the hotel branded with Best Western in August, guest bookings have steadily increased by 104 per cent on average over the past three months.

“Work groups and families are staying between two and four nights to see Hobart at their leisure. Many of our guests in early October came for a long weekend to attend A Festival of Russian Ballet and stayed on to visit other places such as Port Arthur and to see the popular Museum of Old and New Art (MONA). We also had many guests flying into the city for industry conferences and events,” she said.

In 2012, Best Western’s most popular destinations for a short break were Airlie Beach (QLD), Katoomba (Blue Mountains, NSW) and Hobart (TAS).
