The Tasmanian Greens today said the Opposition Leader Will Hodgman was stepping up his campaign to return the Tasmanian community to conflict and division over forestry.
Greens Leader Nick McKim said the move to install Paul Harriss on the Liberal Party frontbench was a death-knell for high conservation value forests, and would wreck moves toward a modern and sustainable forest industry.
“Just when the Tasmanian community is embracing a consensus on forestry, Will Hodgman has nominated the man he wants to drive the return to conflict and division,” Mr McKim said.
“Paul Harriss is one of the last of the old-school forest industry dinosaurs, and he’s almost certainly being lined up for a job as Forestry Minister.”
“He is a relic from the old days of hatred and division over forestry, and his appointment to the Liberal Party frontbench is part of Liberals Party’s attempts to reignite the forest wars.”
“The sound of chainsaws ripping through a World Heritage Area is music to Paul Harriss’ ears.”
“Will Hodgman’s transformation from wet Liberal into hard right wing crusader is almost complete.”
