The Tasmanian Greens today called on all political parties to reject the Federal Government’s attempts to induce Tasmania to sell off its public assets.

Greens Leader Nick McKim MP called on the Opposition Leader Will Hodgman to specifically rule out supporting the future sale of the Hydro Tasmania.

“This is an outrageous attempt by Joe Hockey to bribe us to sell off public assets built with blood, sweat and tears of generations of Tasmanian workers,” Mr McKim said.

“It’s well understood that Will Hodgman is easily manipulated by his federal colleagues, but he needs to rule out succumbing to pressure and supporting the sale of Hydro Tasmania.”

“Privatising public assets for the benefit of the a few rich people is in the Liberal Party’s DNA, and any guarantees they make in opposition are worth nothing.”

“The Liberals have tried and failed to sell off the Hydro once before, and they cannot be trusted to keep it in public hands if they ever win government.”
