Headlining the show will be all three state political leaders in Premier Lara Giddings, Opposition
Leader Will Hodgman and Greens leader Nick McKim, all of which have made several memorable
appearances on the show over the years. It will be the first time that all three have appeared on the
same show since The Brink celebrated its 300th show in 2011.
Also appearing on the show will be Federal Senator Lisa Singh, Federal MP Andrew Wilkie, Hobart
Lord Mayor Damon Thomas, state MPs Matt Groom, Elise Archer, David O’Byrne, Bec White,
Cassy O’Connor and Jacquie Petrusma as well as Tasmanian media icon Tim Franklin and Hobart
singing icons Adam Cousens and Tom Wolfe from the Wolfe Brothers. A long list of former guests
will also be appearing throughout the morning, with several surprises, a unique birthday cake and a
celebratory cheese platter all planned to take place during the 3 hour spectacular. It will also see the
announcement of the ‘best moments of the first 400 shows’ poll that has been run over the last
fortnight as well as the overall results from the show’s infamous ‘famous 5’ questions segment.
Show host Ben Waterworth, who has been on the show since the beginning, is excited to celebrate
the occasion with some of Tasmania’s biggest personalities.
“Throughout 399 shows we have attempted to always bring Hobart the biggest guests on community
radio and we have easily succeeded, attracting all sorts of guests from Royalty, Prime Ministers and
Academy Award nominees. Our motto for the show is ‘Hobart’s voice for inclusion’ and since 2006
we have continued to live by this, and during our 400th show we will remember all the moments that
have made the show so popular, not only in Hobart but right across the state, country and even
abroad. The guests we will have on during our 400th show are a perfect blend of some of the states
most well known people, as well as the people who really make a difference in Tasmania.”
Station manager Mark Cutler also spoke of his admiration for The Brink.
“The Brink is a bedrock show for Edge Radio and host Ben Waterworth is to be congratulated for his
perseverance, professionalism and passion over the journey. Breakfast radio is a tough gig, more so
when you are doing it for love, but Ben has provided a vibrant alternative to the early morning
airwaves for Hobartians and we are all the better for that. Four hundred shows is a terrific
achievement and we hope you will join us as we celebrate this important landmark in Edge Radio’s
history”.
The Brink first hit the airwaves in 2006 and was moved to the competitive Friday breakfast slot in
2007 and added Monday morning to its schedule this year. In its history it has brought the listeners
in Hobart some of the world’s biggest guests including 3 Prime Ministers, 2 Premiers, Grammy
award winners, Academy Award nominees and 7 Formula 1 World Champions. Between them the
impressive list of guests have won over 21 Logies, 11 ARIA’s, 22 Olympic Medals and 142 Grand
Prix as well as a Rhode Scholarship and a Walkley award.
The show has gained significant local, national and international attention over the years due to their
strong local campaigns to get Hobart more recognised as well as their various efforts to bring big
named guests to Hobart community radio. Edge Radio itself has been on air for ten years and has
become Hobart’s number one choice for youth issues as well its leading community station.
Other guests to appear throughout the morning, balloons & streamers will decorate the
studio with a celebratory cheese platter adorning the outside area in celebration of the show,
as well as a ‘unique’ birthday cake to have its candles blown out at approximately 9.15am
