WorkSafe Tasmania Month, 30 September – 1 November 2013
Launceston is set for an influx of presenters and experts in work health and safety, covering
everything from quad bike safety to wellbeing at work, as WorkSafe Tasmania Month launches in the
North of the State TODAY.
IPM Safety Occupational Hygienist and WorkSafe Month presenter, Richard Jackson, will kick off the
Launceston WorkSafe Month program with the How to manage and control asbestos in the
workplace seminar.
Mr Jackson said it was important Tasmanians understood the ins and outs of correct asbestos
handling, especially considering recent issues in Tasmanian workplaces, such as those experienced
during the NBN rollout.
“The risks associated with the improper removal of asbestos need to be minimised, as often it can be
left in situ and pose no risk,” Mr Jackson said.
“This seminar gives Tasmanians the opportunity to learn about how they can improve the control
and management of asbestos in their workplaces.
“The seminar will also look at the risks associated with asbestos, the new workplace Code of Practice
and how it compares to previous guidelines in order to learn about what aspects employers need to
focus on when developing an asbestos management plan.”
WorkSafe Tasmania is hosting two weeks of free work health and safety-focussed events in
Launceston from today through to Friday, 1 November 2013, covering risk management, workplace
bullying, driver safety, workers compensation and workplace leadership, all in an effort to help
workers and employers create healthier, safer and happier workplaces for everyone.
A WorkSafe Month Program of Events is available and registration can be done online up to one
hour before each information session at www.worksafe.tas.gov.au or by phoning 1300 366 322.
