CARDIFF, WALES – Poet IVY ALVAREZ will be launching her second book, DISTURBANCE, at this year’s Dylan Thomas Festival in Swansea.
DISTURBANCE is a novel in verse that chronicles a multiple homicide, a tragic case of domestic violence, where a family was gunned down by the husband and father.
“I was obsessed with the idea of writing about this crime from multiple perspectives,” said Ms Alvarez.
Described by Hemingway Foundation/PEN Award winner Teju Cole as “a precise, pained and wondrous book”, DISTURBANCE is published by Bridgend-based Seren Books.
Ivy Alvarez was born in the Philippines, grew up in Australia and has lived in Cardiff for almost 10 years.
She is a regular in the Cardiff poetry scene, with solid Welsh-Australian connections. Both Literature Wales and the Australia Council for the Arts gave financial support towards the writing of the book.
DISTURBANCE launches at the Dylan Thomas Festival on Wednesday, 6 November, 7.30pm at the Dylan Thomas Centre, Somerset Place, Swansea. Ivy Alvarez reads alongside Singapore’s leading poet Kirpal Singh at the festival.
