RAINBOWS CHALKED IN L’TON AHEAD OF ANTI-GAY PROTEST
Gay rights supporters have chalked a giant rainbow and the words “Respect, Share, Love” at a busy Launceston intersection ahead of an anti-gay protest to be held later today.
Spokesperson, Rick Marton, said,
“Our action is a reminder that everyone should be treated with respect and should be equal in the eyes of the law.”
“It is also a protest against those who would divide the community and propagate fear.”
The chalked rainbow comes ahead of a proposed rally by “True Green” Senate candidate, Andrew Roberts, expected for 10.15 this morning near the Pilgrim Hall polling booth.
Australian Post has refused to distribute Mr Roberts’ flyers against homosexuality and marriage equality on the basis they may breach anti-discrimination law.
Both the rainbow and the rally are located on the corner of Paterson and St John streets.
