Organisers have announced the dates for the second annual Hobart Baroque festival of early music. .

“Hobart Baroque generated so much local, interstate and international interest, “said Executive Director Jarrod Carland, “that we have decided to announce the dates well in advance especially so that interstate patrons may plan their visit.

The festival with open on Friday, March 24 and run until April 6,

“Once again we will be using the Theatre Royal for a major opera production, but the festival will be much. expanded with no fewer than ten events in the historic Hobart Town Hall which proved to be a perfect venue for intimate baroque performance,”

Mr. Carland said that in addition there would be performances in Federation Concert Hall and City Hall. “And because we have had a longer lead time for planning we have been able to involve the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra next year.”

“We have an exciting line-up of international headline performers but we will also showcase the talents of an impressive group of young Tasmanian musicians. Indeed, throughout the entire program we have placed particular emphasis on young performers who represent the future of this unique event.”

The full program will be released in mid-October.

However patrons are encouraged to register interest and those who do so will be given priority booking.

“We are confident that this second Hobart Baroque will build on the success of the inaugural event which was awarded two coveted Helpmann nominations, a unique honour for a new cultural event.
