IN his continuing search for the more weird, wacky and wondrous in the world of travel, David Ellis introduced us this time last year to a pint-sized doll in the shape of a gingerbread man, and who looked like becoming Australia’s most-travelled doll companion.
Appropriately-named Gingy, the little bloke cut his travelling teeth with Gayle Dawson, a Brisbane-based Personal Travel Manager with home-based travel agency group, TravelManagers.
And because they enjoyed it so much, Gayle thought it would also be nice to share Gingy around fellow personal travel managers who often travelled on their own – as well as give him a wider insight of the world. So since our story of 12 months ago he’s been off to Thailand, Egypt, Jordan, Switzerland, Bali, numerous South Pacific islands, on a Carnival cruise and another on Oasis of the Seas, Hawaii, San Diego, Los Angeles, through the Grand Canyon, New York City, Las Vegas, Miami, France, Perth, Shoal Bay, Adelaide, the Gold Coast and Melbourne.
And between now and the end of this year he’s booked-up to also visit Hong Kong, Scotland, England, Nashville, New Orleans, Disneyland, Ireland, Germany and Holland… which will see him having completed around 280,000 kilometres since Gayle took him on his first outing less than twelve months ago.
Our picture shows Gingy enjoying a dive in Niue with Personal Travel Manager, Robin Woods of Shoal Bay, Port Stephens NSW.
