The Tasmanian Greens Leader Nick McKim MP today welcomed the latest progress on the implantation of the Tasmanian Forests Agreement, with the making of the initial proposed reserve order for 392, 237 hectares of high conservation value forests.
“This is another important milestone toward delivering all the conservation and industry restructure goals set out in the Tasmanian Forests Agreement Act, which is now law,” Mr McKim said.
“This Special Council’s Durability Report makes it clear that although there is still some progress to be made, all parties to the agreement remain firmly on board the process.”
“The Greens see no reason why the proposed new formal reserves cannot now proceed through both Houses of Parliament.”
“Any delay would risk the flow of regional development money set aside under the Act, including the $10 million allocated to the Sense-T project over the weekend.”
