Clive Palmer, federal leader of the Palmer United Party, has today announced that social issues such as same-sex marriage will come down to a conscience vote from candidates.
Mr Palmer said the Liberal and Labor parties are dogmatic on their position on social issues such as same-sex marriage and force their candidates and MP’s to tow the party line.
“The Palmer United Party believes issues such as same-sex marriage, the abortion debate and euthanasia should all come down to the candidates’ individual position on the issue,” he said.
“The mainstream parties force their candidates and MP’s to vote as one with the party, making individuals go against their personal views, religious beliefs and strong convictions.
“These parties’ rules dominate and destroy any essence of individuality within the party, this kind of limitation of ideas and individuality is not what Australians deserve.
“The Palmer United Party is committed to offering a voice to all Australians, which is why we promote the individual rights of everyone. There will be no party pressure on any of our candidates and we will respect their thoughts, views and ideas on all social issues including same-sex marriage.
“Liberal and Labor’s stronghold on their candidates and MP’s is not what is best for Australia, they promote conformity and reward it with career acceleration.”
