Prime Minister Kevin Rudd is again attempting to mislead Tasmanians.

Appearing in Launceston this morning, Mr Rudd made inaccurate comments about how our state will be affected by GST distribution and the National Broadband Network.

Tasmanian Senator Stephen Parry said the facts are clear.

“The GST distribution for Tasmania will not be affected in any way, shape or form under a Coalition Government,” Senator Parry said.

“This has been made clear on many occasions by Opposition leader Tony Abbott, Shadow Treasurer Joe Hockey and every Tasmanian senator and federal candidate.”

“I want to say very clearly to the people of Australia – particularly the people of South Australia and Tasmania – there will be no change whatsoever to the GST unless all the states agree.”
– Tony Abbott, Opposition Leader, April 2013

“Tasmania will not be worse off under the allocation of the GST under the Coalition – full stop.
There will be no unilateral decision from the Commonwealth Government under the Coalition that would seek to disadvantage Tasmania under the allocation of the GST.”
– Joe Hockey, Shadow Treasurer, February 2013

The National Broadband Network is another issue Labor wants to deceive.

“In relation to the NBN, the Coalition position is clear,” Senator Parry said.

“Any contract already in place for NBN rollout will be honoured under a Coalition Government.”

“As we have stated in our policy we intend to honour existing contracts – the alternative would be to breach them and that is a course we would not countenance”
