You may remember an article in Tasmanian Times earlier this year ( A plea for help from Stawell, Victoria ) about a proposed open cut gold mine in Stawell Victoria.
Well that project is still with us and is now the subject of an Environmental Effects Statement.
Now is a time for community input with the Draft Scoping Requirements out for public comment until 9 August ( see this website ‘http://www.dpcd.vic.gov.au/planning/environment-assessment/projects/big-hill-enhanced-development-project’ for all the details).
Clearly there are aspects local to Stawell but the project raises a spectre that could affect us all. Glance at the map (Download below) and you will see just how close to homes the open cuts will be.
If you care about the social impact of mining please make a submission.
