Dear friend,

This week we’ve got a very special message for you from father of SLAPP, Professor George W Rock Pring.

Professor Pring “co-authored (with Professor Penelope Canan) the book SLAPPs: Getting Sued for Speaking Out, which first named and drew international attention to the problem of Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation” – lawsuits that chill citizens communications with government.

Come along to our special forum this Wednesday in Sydney to hear Professor Pring’s message to you.

We are hosting an expert panel to discuss Access to Justice and the Right to Public Participation – Lessons learned from the Gunns20 litigation.

Speakers include Gunns20 Defense Counsel leader Julian Burnside AO QC; Academic Sharon Beder, who’s research focuses on how power relationships are maintained and challenged, particularly by corporations and professions; Dr Gerry Bates environmental law academic and former Tasmanian State MP; and Pepe Clarke, Chief Executive Officer for The Nature Conservation Council of NSW.

We’ll be exploring the important social issues raised by the “Gunns20” court case. The case raises numerous cutting-edge issues for lawyers and non-lawyers alike interested in environmental justice, human rights and corporate responsibility.
