My Brother’s Shadows, the story of the life and death of a young man called Wayne Reynolds who died of leukemia when he was 18, will be launched tonight at Melbourne’s Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

It was written by Wayne’s older sister Hayley, who is a researcher at Peter Mac.

The book is a deeply personal story of love, struggle, suffering and faith written from the perspective of an older sister. Many bereavement books are written by parents, spouses and friends, but few have been written by siblings.

Ilana Berger, Clinical Team Leader of Peter Mac’s Victorian Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Service writes, ‘Adolescents and young adults are a unique group when it comes to a cancer diagnosis.

As the sibling of a young cancer patient, Hayley provides and accurate and honest recount of her experience. She highlights so beautifully the challenges facing siblings on the journey and leaves the reader feeling in awe of her courage and faith.’
