THE NEED FOR CHANGE

For over 25 years Project Queenstown Inc has undertaken a ‘township committee’ role within the community, providing a voice on local tourism, arts, heritage, and Council liaison. However, recent development of the Queenstown Heritage & Arts Festival has increasingly consumed the majority of our resources and diluted this role, hence the need for change.

After much discussion at our February AGM and at a subsequent Special General Meeting, the Project Queenstown Inc committee changed its constitution and incorporation status to better reflect its role as an event management organisation.

From this process the non-profit incorporated body Queenstown Heritage & Arts Festival Inc was born. This organisation will solely oversee the growth and development of the biennial festival and the development and support of relevant cultural activity between festivals.

NEW TOWNSHIP & TOURISM COMMITTEES

The committee recognised the ‘township committee’ role as an important function that needs to be upheld within the community. A new unnamed committee is in development that aims to more comprehensively fulfil this role and provide leadership on economic development and encourage social enterprise. This committee is still in development but keep an eye out for information on its activities later this year.

West Coast Tourism Inc also represents the west coast tourism industry. For more information on their activities or to receive their e-newsletter please contact Secretary Carolyn Nissen on [email protected].

THE FESTIVAL

The festival is going from strength to strength, with impressive economic and social impact data detailing the profound effect that the event has on our community. If you would like to remain informed about the festival please email [email protected] to receive the monthly festival minutes and/or the future e-newsletter.

THANK YOU

Over the journey Project Queenstown Inc has achieved many positive outcomes for our community. As the outgoing chair I’d like to sincerely thank the many wonderful people who have dedicated their time and have driven the committee for the benefit of Queenstown.

It was fitting that our Hon Treasurer Noel Appleby, who has been involved since Project Queenstown’s inception, officially moved the final motion for change. It’s also fitting that the committee consensually comes to a close because new opportunities beckon. The future for our community is extremely bright and I’d like to encourage you to remain engaged with our activities.

If you would like to keep in touch with me personally please amend your contact details to [email protected].
