The Tasmanian Greens planning spokesperson Tim Morris MP today said that the declaration of new schemes for the Northern Midlands and Break O’Day Councils was welcome, but long overdue.
“This is good progress, however these Draft Interim Schemes should have been declared and brought into effect many months ago, along with the rest from the Northern Region.”
“The North Western and Southern Region Draft Schemes are hopelessly behind as well and the Minister should provide a hard and fast timeline to get them declared as well.”
“There is a significant missed economic opportunity due to the chronic delays in getting consistent and modernised Planning Schemes in place.”
“Nearly all Tasmanian Planning Schemes are long overdue for a rationalisation of zoning on land, so that owners are better able to undertake development of homes and businesses, as long as it is in conformity with the Regional Strategy.”
“The inappropriate application of the Protection of Agricultural Land Policy of continues to stymie significant development that is not incomparable with preserving the land needed for our current and future farming needs.”
