Nelson Voters 4 Change launches pre-poll radio spots.

‘I’m here today to ask you to vote for anyone but ‘BEEP!’ – opens the final radio-spot sponsored by grass-roots group Nelson Voters 4 Change, in the lead-up to a May 4 poll for the Legislative Council seat of Nelson.

“Tasmania’s archaic electoral act prevents us from even naming our local member during this upper house election campaign,” says NV4C President, Dr Juliet Lavers.

“We decided to put the ad out anyway, because the community has had enough of part-time pollies on full-time wages and deserve to know that there are three alternatives.

“All of the other candidates for Nelson have committed to working full-time for Nelson. This includes Independent Liberal Candidate, Hans Willink, Independent Helen Richardson and Tasmanian Greens candidate, Tom Baxter.

“On top of a taxpayer funded full-time salary and allowances over $160,000 each year, it is an outrage that any of our Legislative Council members can work part-time or in two jobs. That is why we will be out door-knocking in Nelson to ask the community to vote for ‘Anyone but Jim’” Dr Lavers says.

NV4C will be door-knocking until election day. The group’s radio ad will run until the media black-out on May 1st.

The radio ad:

Announcer: I’m here today to ask you to vote for anyone but … (( Sfx: “Beep” ))

(( Sfx: “Beep” )) … is your local member for Nelson.

I can’t tell you his name, but I can tell you he works two jobs, even though he’s entitled to over $160,000 in salary and allowances to represent you in the legislative council.

The other candidates, Helen Richardson, Tom Baxter and Hans Willink, have all committed to representing you full-time.

On May 4, vote for someone who’s only job is to represent you.

On May 4, vote for anyone but … (( Sfx: “Beep” ))
