Friends,
Today I leave the Island with a heavy heart. Despite all the highs of the UpRiver booklaunch and the inspiration of activists protecting trees and rivers and habitats, and people working for ecological and community sustainability. Todays announcement is one of those hollow compromises that means nothing much at all has changed. Some would say half is better than none, but I say every last bit was the minimum we needed to protect. This Opportunity for Deep Restorative Change was lost.
All that work down the tube. All those thousands of ancient trees destroyed while we waited for an outcome which not only guarantees more ancient trees falling but opening up rainforest areas for logging.
Thank you all for your support. Please don’t lose heart and please keep on going. This whole island is a magic place. Too precious to destroy.
A song I always love to sing in these desperate times, and I hear in my mind the thousands of harmonies of peoples voices joining in across the globe-
Take to the streets!
Lift up your voice!
Sing for the Earth while you still have a choice!
Stay strong
Keep the faith
Peace & Love
