Tasmania has thousands of wetlands of all shapes and sizes. Living in them are some of the most strange and unique plants and animals.

Worth celebrating? We think so!

Bring a picnic and join in the fun

Saturday 2 February 2013, 10–3 pm
Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens

Come and meet wetland experts from Tas State Government and a wide range of non-government associations including: Private Land Conservation Program, Water Division, Inland Fisheries, NRM South, Birdlife Tasmania, Bookend Trust, University of Tasmania, Clarence Council, Derwent Estuary Program, Reptile Rescue and Australian Society of Limnology.

Events suitable for all ages

Funky Fast Forum: 11 – 12 pm
Lots of wetland facts, real fast!
Margaret Brock Wetlands, water plants and water: why worry
Peter Davis They crawl, climb, dig and swim. Tasmania’s talented native freshwater fish!
Bookend Trust Monsters and Miners: Tasmania’s amazing freshwater crayfish
Birdlife Tas Wetlands: prime real estate for Tasmanian birdlife
Lauderdale Guided Wetland Walk: 1 – 3 pm

Join wetland experts from the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment, the University of Tasmania, Birdlife Tasmania and Clarence City Council for an informative and entertaining walk around the spectacular salt marshes of Lauderdale.

Buses will leave the Botanical Gardens at 1 pm to take people over to the wetland for a 1-hour walk and return to Gardens at approx 3 pm.

Bring sturdy shoes, water and binoculars if you have them.
