Greens candidate for Denison, Anna Reynolds, has called on the current Member for Denison to offer more policy reform and less self-serving commentary.
Member for Denison Andrew Wilkie labelled the breakdown of the Labor-Green agreement for Federal Parliament as a “charade” and claimed that the Greens and the ALP were plotting to “destroy” him.
“His delusional outburst against the Greens is creating an unnecessary and self-indulgent drama. It is a distraction from the reality that Denison will be better served by a strong Greens team than one isolated man ,” Anna Reynolds said.
Anna Reynolds said that Mr Wilkie’s claims of an ALP/Greens plot against him is completely manufactured and a bizarre conspiracy theory.
“The Greens will have discussions about preferences with all players as that’s part of our electoral system. The Greens will talk with everyone including Mr Wilkie – our door is open but he has not approached us.”
Ms Reynolds called on Mr Wilkie to be transparent about his talks and discussions with Opposition Leader Tony Abbott.
“He has said that his break from the ALP is different to the Greens – by not ruling out blocking supply or a no confidence motion in Julia Gillard, Mr Wilkie is assisting Tony Abbott. That’s a worry for voters.”
“Green voters in Denison are telling me they are keen to vote for someone who is vocal on issues such as the need for an effective mining tax, protection of the Tarkine, and action on climate change – debates that Mr Wilkie has chosen to stay outside of,” she said.
