The Tarkine National Coalition has today sought an urgent meeting with Minister Tony Burke following allegations that both Venture Minerals and the AWU have received assurances that the Venture Minerals’ proposed mine leases will be excluded from the eventual National Heritage Listing area.
The Australian heritage Council is understood to be still undertaking work on the assessment, however has previously recommended that 433,000 hectares in the Tarkine be listed, including the area sought by Venture Minerals.
“These allegations are extremely concerning and unfortunately they confirm what we have been hearing through our networks”, said Campaign Coordinator Scott Jordan.
“The integrity of the system has been strained by interference and delay by this Minister, and any assurances to any party are highly improper”.
“We are seeking a meeting with the Minister at his earliest convenience to discuss these concerns”.
