October 26 marks a special celebration to welcome high-speed fibre-optic broadband for the Dilston, Swan Bay and Windermere communities.
While Friday evenings are always popular at Windermere Corner Café with locals enjoying food and wine at the regular TGIF (thankgodit’sfriday), October 26 is an especially sweet occasion for residents.
That’s when the NBN Rollout Engagement Group Community Account Managers come to make a special NBN presentation and answer questions from residents and local businesses, many of whom are teleworkers or are engaged in education, tourism and specialist high-tech small businesses.
Get Connected, a community initiative group that campaigned to get high-speed fibre-optic broadband when this part of the East Tamar was originally assigned ‘fixed’ wireless broadband, organised this special event.
“The group’s survey showed that high-speed fibre-optic Broadband is the preferred choice of 77% of people living in this community,”said Get Connected spokesperson Trixie Gillard.
Local politicians representing the political spectrum, many of whom have supported Get Connected, have been invited. “We’re expecting MLC for Windermere, Ivan Dean and Greens’ Senator Peter Whish-Wilson, who both live in the area. And Brian Wightman, Labor Member for Bass, State Liberal MP Michael Ferguson and Greens’ Member for Bass,Kim Booth have also said they would be there,”Trixie Gillard said. Launceston City Council will also be represented.
NBN Co’s Lalla Mackenzie, Lead Community Account Manager, Rollout Engagement Group, and Community Account Managers Mary Todorov and Chris Gregory will make a presentation and answer questions.
TGIF runs from 5.30 to 7.30 p.m. The NBN presentation will be at 6.30.
