FLEDGLING CIDER COMPANY SCOOPS THREE AWARDS IN
AUSTRALIA’S MOST PRESTIGIOUS CIDER TASTING EVENT
PRE-BRAND LAUNCH RELEASE, TASMANIA, OCTOBER 2012: It was a last minute decision that hugely rewarded Tasmania’s fledgling Franklin Cider Co. when the company couriered samples of its first cider pressing for taste-tasting at the 2012 Australian Cider Awards.
The new cider company, due to be officially launched at the Taste Festival on 28 December 2012, was awarded Best In Class for its Frank’s Summer Pear Cider and a Bronze Medallion for both its Frank’s Summer Apple and Pear Ciders.
“It’s a really good news story that Tasmania can now own a part of this growing cider industry,” commented Naomie Clark-Port, Franklin Cider Co.’s Joint Managing Director. “We are so thrilled to be honoured with these awards, particularly with such esteemed competition amongst the 150 entrants. Our label branding was still in production at the time, so we literally sent up cleanskins as we believed the brand characteristics lie wholly in the crafted taste, direct from our orchards.”
Owned by the Clark family since 1836, Clark-Port represents the sixth generation to occupy Woodside, the 150 acre apple farm in the heart of Australia’s Huon Valley apple-growing region. Its established orchard, renowned for producing high quality fruit, contains apple trees dating back over 100 years, first planted by Clark-Port’s great grandfather.
“Unlike a number of cider products, Frank’s contains no fruit concentrates in the production process. We felt this approach was important to differentiate our cider and the ‘no concentrate’ approach tested extremely positively amongst our target audience,” continued Clark-Port.
“The results are cider products with a very distinctive fruit flavour, instantly delivering a just picked taste experience for both the apple and pear products. We expect a very high volume in sales and we have the capabilities to meet this demand.”
The Franklin Cider Co. is a collaboration between Naomie Clark-Port, Tony Port and highly regarded Tasmanian vigneron Julian Alcorso, who is the maker behind the Frank’s magic.
