The Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drugs Council will be hosting a Quiz Night tonight at the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania to raise community awareness of Drug Action Week and the harms associated with dangerous alcohol and substance misuse.

Drug Action Week (DAW) 2012 is a week of activities held nationally to raise awareness about alcohol and other drugs (AOD) issues in Australia. The week also highlights the achievements of the dedicated individuals who work within the AOD sector to reduce alcohol and drug-related harm. The ATDC’s Quiz Night will be one of over 700 events held Nationally.

Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drugs Council, CEO, Jann Smith acknowledged the work of the Tasmanian ATOD sector in participating in Drug Action Week “There are more than 20 different events happening across the state for Drug Action Week 2012. We encourage the community to participate in events happening in the local area”. Details for events happening in Tasmania can be found on the Drug Action Week website at www.drugactionweek.org.au

Given that the theme of Drug Action Week is Looking after YOUR mind it seemed appropriate to hold a Quiz Night to build awareness in the community and raise funds. Event organiser, Amanda Street from the Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drugs Council, said, “Quiz nights are a great way to involve the community and increase awareness at the same time”.

Several businesses in the local community have assisted in donating items for prizes and for the live auction. “We have been so pleased with the support from businesses and supporters who have kindly donated items and we thank you all” said Amanda.

Over 100 people are expected to attend the Quiz Night.
