UNDERCURRENT is an exhibition of collagraph and drypoint prints by local artist Maureen King.
The Little Gallery is Devonport Regional Gallery’s emerging artist space that aims to represent local content from early career artists.
A local artist based in Devonport, Maureen King has been an active printmaker for several years and is a highly experienced artist. King’s latest exhibition explores the narratives and stories created by her immediate environment of Devonport. Through the use of collagraph’s and drypoint etchings Maureen King explores the stories and forms created by water, tides and banks.
“Where the river becomes a port, a floating world of commerce, pleasure and decay has emerged along the banks. The drypoints provide glimpses of Devonport on a more intimate scale and hint at issues for the viewer to consider. The lower Mersey is a world rich in contrasts which rewards contemplation.” Maureen King, 2012
UNDERCURRENT is a thoughtful and visually stimulating exhibtion that explores the colours and textures of Devonport’s unique environment.
