ABC Online, Budget blow out debate:

The Tasmanian Parliament is debating the state government’s request for an extra $45-million to deal with a budget blow out.

The Premier Lara Giddings says the additional money was foreshadowed in the Mid Year Financial Report* released last month.

She’s today introduced the Supplementary Appropriation Bill to cover what she says was additional and unavoidable expenditure, not foreseen in the last budget.

Ms Giddings has told parliament it covers the Health Department’s budget blow-out of $25-million and funding for the forest peace deal.

“This time last year when it came to the budget of course we didn’t know about the implications of the intergovernmental agreement and the state government’s contribution of some $15-million,” she said.
