Launch of Lucy Frost’s Abandoned Women, Scottish Convicts Exiled Beyond the Seas by Professor Cassandra Pybus at Fullers Bookshop, Thursday, February 16, 6pm

The launch of Emeritus Professor Lucy Frost’s latest book Abandoned Women, Scottish Convicts Exiled Beyond the Seas will take place at Fullers Bookshop, Hobart on Thursday, February 16 at 6pm.

Professor Cassandra Pybus, historian and high profile Tasmanian writer will launch the book.

Lucy Frost is one of Tasmania’s best known historians with a swathe of books covering the convict era in Tasmania to her name, she has spent a career researching writing about nineteenth century women.

In Abandoned Women Frost memorably paints a portrait of a boatload of women and their children who arrived in Hobart in 1838. Instead of serving time in prison the women were sent to work as unpaid servants in the houses of settlers.

Frost has also incorporated the experience of her research into the text; the difficulties of telling the story of women of whom there was very little record kept.
