Australia Day in 2012 is celebrated in style on the Bellerive Boardwalk with a big Aussie breakfast, great entertainment and a formal ceremony.
Commencing at 8:30am with a big breakfast and entertainment by local groove-reggae band Trumps and the Clarence City Band, we’ll be tuning in with a live-to-air broadcast on Ultra 106five with Australia Day Ambassador Tonia Todman.
And there is plenty to celebrate on the Bellerive Boardwalk this Australia Day, with great food and entertainment, a big book sale by the Rotary Club of Howrah and a whole host of activities for the kids.
“Australia Day is about the coming together as a community. Our shared identity is the strength of this great country and I’m delighted to be welcoming our new citizens as valued community members.” Mayor of Clarence, Alderman Doug Chipman said.
From 11am Ald. Chipman will preside over Clarence’s Citizenship Ceremony and Ambassador Tonia Todman will announce Clarence’s Citizen of the Year Awards.
Mr Brian Ritchie, curator of the MONA FOMA Festival and his wife Varuni Kulasekera, proprietor of Chado Tea House, are becoming citizens during the proceedings.
“Australia is a beacon in this part of the world. The hardship with how Australia originated has led to its unpretentiousness and the hardworking nature of its people. Hopefully the current wave of immigrants will continue in this way, including us . . . we think it’s important to contribute to the culture here.” Mr Ritchie said.
