Tasmanian Tourism Awards 2011
The Skills Institute (TSI) is leading the State in the delivery of tourism qualifications, taking
out the Tourism Education and Training Award at the 2011 Tasmanian Tourism Awards held
in Hobart on Friday.
The Award recognises the TSI’s dedication and success in providing flexible tourism training
and qualifications that align to the needs and standards of Tasmanian tourism industry
providers.
Tourism and Hospitality Unit Leader Jane Richardson said key to the success of TSI’s
training and education was fostering strong relationships with industry employers and bodies,
including the Tourism Industry Council of Tasmania, TCCI and Business Events Tasmania.
“TSI provides high quality direct training and workforce development advice that is focused
on the needs of employers and is customised to individual businesses and conducted in their
workplaces,” Ms Richardson said.
“We work in partnership with industry to ensure our courses deliver ‘real world’ skills to
support and develop the efficiency and profitability of our local tourism businesses.
“We are extremely proud to receive the Award, which would not have been possible without
the Tourism Industry Council Tasmania (TICT) and the wonderful support from our amazing
industry partners and businesses.”
Ms Richardson said the Award came off the back of recently announced funding through the
Productivity Places Program (PPP) towards training existing tourism and hospitality workers,
operators, managers and supervisors.
“The PPP is a joint Commonwealth and State funding program that aims to increase the
number of workers with higher level qualifications, improving the efficiency, productivity and
innovation of our tourism industry,” she said.

The Tasmanian Tourism Awards are presented annually by the Tourism Industry Council
Tasmania (TICT) and are designed to promote and reward business excellence in the
