Leon Compton and Nick Glaetzer at TMAG

We all know that Tasmania is famous for the quality of its cool climate wines especially the pinot noir but how do you start your own Tasmanian wine collection? In the third of this series Leon’s special guest is recent winner of Wine Australia’s national Young Winemaker of the Year, Nick Glaetzer, and he should know.

Nick comes from a family steeped in winemaking history, growing up in the Barossa Valley with a winemaking father, uncle and brothers. He now makes wine for Frogmore Creek and his own family label Glaetzer-Dixon earning a reputation for his fresh and experimental approach to winemaking.

Leon is spending regular Monday lunchtimes at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery in conversation with some of ABC Radio’s favourite experts. This is a free event so bring your lunch and join Leon and Nick in a chat about the challenges in establishing an affordable and quality Tasmanian wine cellar.
Always informative, always entertaining, come and join the conversation.

About Nick Glaetzer
Nick Glaetzer began his winemaking journey in the Barossa Valley, following with vintages in the Languedoc, the Pfalz, Margaret River, the Riverland, Sunraysia, the Hunter Valley and Burgundy. In 2005 Nick landed in Tasmania, searching for cool-climate, super premium vineyards, fit for crafting fresh and inspired wines for people who enjoy drinking wine. Winemaking with local industry veterans at Frogmore Creek has given Nick access to a select group of high quality Tasmanian vineyards, ensuring each GDF wine has a layered depth of flavour and structure over the vintages. He was named national Young Winemaker of the Year 2011 in September.
