After four hours sleep last night, I was awoken by a call from a prospective voter concerned about my genealogy.
She implied it was irresponsible for me to stand for the Launceston City Council due to my failure to verify my pedigree.
It appears some sort of proof that neither I, nor my parents or grandparents have travelled further than Oatlands since reaching maturity is a prerequisite for candidature.
So here it is:
Sire: Thomas Ellison, born 1933, Latrobe, Tasmania.
Dam: Anne Valette Jagoe (1933 – 1987), born Scotland.
Litter: Second of four.
Markings: Balding, irregular temperament.
Although my ancestors arrived with the Second Fleet and were some of Launceston’s earliest settlers, I’m grateful that most chose to travel and settle in other parts of the world.
I believe having a passion for Launceston, which I chose as my home many years ago, is more important than being able to claim a family history of paddling around the same regional centre without distinction for a century.
So there we have it. My last pitch for a number one (or number two) vote.
Please share this with as many friends as you can. Tasmania is a fantastic place to live, but we need to change.
We need to adapt. We need to recognise the beauty, magic and priceless natural and built heritage we can show the world.
Please help,
Tom
