A team of researchers will investigate the impact of Hobart’s Museum of Old and New Art to work out how the state can capitalise on its success.

Up to six researchers will look at the social, cultural and economic impacts of MONA.

Professor Adrian Franklin from the University of Tasmania says they want to find how how and why MONA works.

“Why does it have the appeal it does.”

“Then once we know that, we know how we can build other connections to it around the state,” he said.

The Tourism Industry Council’s Luke Martin says the benefit could flow to other industries.

“Fine produce and our wine and our fine foods and also around our art and craft.”

The team will apply for an Australian Research Council grant to get the study underway, after securing financial backing from local and state governments.
