Max glanced down, and his entire hand was black. That’s weird, he thought. Then the darkness began to move. Like black oil, it poured up his arm. He gasped in terror—instinct took over. Thus ends chapter 6 of the new adventure novel, Tiptoe Through Tasmania by Janice Anderson.
Move over Indiana Jones; step aside Crocodile Hunter. Meet Jaden and Max – two brothers who travel to exotic places to save endangered species. In this episode, while on the trail of the endangered Tasmanian devil, Jaden and Max face an unruly jungle, wild animals, mysterious aborigines, and many other dangers.
Tiptoe Through Tasmania is the first book in the Around the World Adventures series of geography-based middle grade readers. In this series, author Janice Anderson combines real issues in exotic places with nail-biting escapades that have young readers – especially boys – captivated and demanding more.
In the Around the World Adventures series, Anderson hopes to expose the plight of endangered species like the Tasmanian devil, the Komodo dragon, the great green macaw, and the bubblegum dolphin.
As Anderson points out, “Many species are in danger. The trend is clear. What animal is next to face extinction? When do humans face the same plight? I hope to alert young readers to these serious problems – but do it in an entertaining way.”

About the author: Janice Anderson wanted to write a story that exposed young readers to exotic geography and rare animals on the brink of extinction without sounding preachy or writing nonfiction. “My own sons,” Anderson notes, “Love creepy critters and strange places but had lost interest in reading the usual nonfiction. I hunted for quality geography-based fiction without any luck. I soon learned that middle-readers for boys ages 8-12 were in great demand by parents. So I began to create what I was looking for.”
Don’t miss the next Around the World Adventure when Jaden and Max pursue the notorious Komodo dragon in Inch Over Indonesia, due out in winter 2011.
