St Augustine is often credited with developing the concept of a ‘just war’ but is it actually rational to have guidelines about killing people or is the rule of war an oxymoron? International military politics can be a controversial topic but Leon Compton will tackle some of the big questions with the expert assistance of ABC regular Dr Matt Killingsworth in the fourth of this series of open conversations.
Leon has been spending regular Monday lunchtimes at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery chatting with some of ABC Radio’s favourite experts. Bring your lunch and your opinion and join Leon and Dr Killingsworth in a spirited discussion on the contemporary context of a ‘just war’ with particular reference to the recent war in Libya.
Dr Killingsworth is an Associate Lecturer in the UTAS School of Government and is also Discipline Co-ordinator of International Politics. His research areas of interest include the changing nature of war, human rights and humanitarian intervention.
Always informative, always entertaining, come and join the conversation.
