Wriedt in council bid

TASMANIAN politics has not seen the last of Paula Wriedt – at a grassroots level at least.

The state’s former education minister has thrown her hat in the ring for the upcoming local government elections, seeking a seat around the Kingborough Council table.

But Ms Wriedt says her foray into local government is not a stepping stone to making a political comeback at a state or federal level.

She is unsure whether her past political life will help or undermine her council campaign.

“People will recognise my name and the public could be polarised in their views towards me,” Ms Wriedt said.

“How I will fare is the big unknown.

“But I have lived in this area for more than half my life and I am committed to raising my family here.”

Ms Wriedt is standing for local government election as an independent candidate.

She says she no longer has any political affiliations and no plan to take another tilt at Tasmanian politics.
