GREENS RIGHT ALL ALONG ON AURORA ENERGY TAMAR VALLEY POWER STATION
Independent Panel Blames AETV for Spiralling Power Prices
Kim Booth MP
Greens Energy spokesperson
The Tasmanian Greens today discovered in Budget Estimates hearings that initial concerns that electricity prices would rapidly increase due to the Aurora Energy Tamar Valley (AETV) power station were, according to the independent Energy Expert Advisory Panel, were true.
Greens Energy spokesperson Kim Booth MP said it is now clear that this failed project is causing a sting in the hip pockets of Mums and Dads, just as the Greens initially predicted it would.
“The Energy Expert Advisory Panel which was secured by the Greens in negotiation with Labor last year has now finally revealed the truth around the AETV being responsible for rapidly increasing power prices paid for by Mum and Dad electricity consumers,” Mr Booth said.
“It is quite clear that failed energy policy and secret commitments made for both a pipeline capacity agreement coasting around $90 million and a gas take or pay agreement have not only driven the purchase (to hide these liabilities) of the AETV, but resulted in Mums and Dads being slugged through the meter.”
“In addition, lets not forget the $56 million debt to pay for the Pratt and Whitney gas peakers that were given to Alinta, but the debt left with Hydro.”
“There is a serious cloud hanging over advice to the Minister or Ministers overriding advice, which he refuses to table. Either way it is the Mums and Dads who are paying for Labor’s energy bungles,” Mr Booth said.
